Nau mai, haere mai, whakatau mai!
Tēnā Koutou Katoa.

Tai Tokerau Trades Training would like to thank you all for your hard work guiding our Taitamariki this year! We would also like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Enjoy the holiday season, eat lots of yummy food, share time with your loved ones and be safe!

2022 has been an interesting year, to say the least! With many challenges and obstacles this year we have all had to get creative in our own ways, and we would like to applaud you all on your efforts! Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa.

We would like to thank all those who attended, hosted and supported our events this year and all those who made full use of our services. We look forward to working with you all again in 2023!!

We now look towards the New Year. With a new year comes new trials, new experiences and new opportunities to learn and grow.

EEB Team Highlight of the year
Regan (left): This year, I have met many new faces from different backgrounds. My highlight of the year has been facilitating our Employability Programme and Pathways Presentation to many Ākonga. I have loved meeting these young people and seeing their faces brighten, and their eyes widen when they discover something about themselves. Seeing these ākonga discover talents they didn’t know they possessed and gaining new ideas about their futures! It brings me so much joy sharing my knowledge with these Taitamariki and helping them realise that there are so many possible pathways out there, and helping them understand that if they put in the work and effort, they can chase their dreams no matter what they are!
''It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be'' - Albus Dumbledore

Awhina (middle): It has been an absolute pleasure cruising around the beautiful Te Tai Tokerau to serve the 39 secondary schools we have here in the north, bringing vocational pathways exploration, exposure, and resources to taitamariki. My personal highlight will have to be visiting some of our more remote rural Kura and building strong relationships that build solid support systems for their ākonga and future ākonga.
Keali'i (Right): I joined the EEB team in July and have enjoyed all aspects to do with the job. My highlight would be the opportunity to travel the north and recognise the talent that we have up here. There is much talent in the north, and we need to get the right resources to give our people a chance. I am looking forward to 2023 and excited to bring some of those resources to our people.
School Highlights
What a Year!!!
2022 has been a successful year for us in the Education to Employment Brokerage team (EEB). The previous year we had to deal with covid and other significant barriers that halted the progress of our services. However, with perseverance and a passion for our kaupapa, we were able to overcome these barriers to deliver and support events throughout the Northland Region.

Our pathways presentations focus on educating junior students about different pathways on the vocational wheel and teach the importance of subject selection for their senior years. This year we saw “lightbulb moments” where students realised they have skills, hidden passions and a global possibility. Our highlight would be the opportunity to connect with rural schools and deliver the presentation to them; Te Kura Taumata ō Pangaru, Ruawai College, Te Kura Kaupapa Māori ō Pukemiro and Whangaroa College.

Our Employability Programme focuses on teaching students the importance of ”soft skills” in the workplace and how employers see these skills as, if not more important than, technical skills. We teach skills like; communication, interview skills, teamwork, etc. Throughout this year, we have seen students grow in confidence and understand what it means to be a good employer. We spend a lot of time in schools while delivering the employability programme. Our Highlight is the connections built because of this time. We see first-hand students grow in knowledge, confidence and preparation for the working world.

Our multi-school events, or “Tools of the Trade”, brings several industries to a school/Kura where they share with students what they do daily; this is an opportunity for students to meet and ask industries about their job. This event brings in other schools from the local area, and they have to opportunity to connect. The Highlight is that students learn about different industries they haven't heard of, expand their knowledge and grow excited towards their working future. Special mention to Kamo High School and Te Kura Kaupapa Maōri ō Pukemiro for hosting our events.

Our ultimate highlight is connecting with students and learning about their passions and desires for their future; we enjoyed connecting with all schools/Kura throughout the north and hopefully can continue our mahi moving onto 2023.

Tai Tokerau Trades Training has had a successful year, and we would like to thank all the schools/kura for having us in and teaching their students.
